Quick Snap – The Pleiades

March 21, 2011

Snapped the zoom lens onto the Canon this eve for the first “Quick Snap” post.  Figured it might be a good idea to introduce just a single image post of something we’ve quickly snapped, with a bit of info on the subject.

*Edit* I’ve added a second image of the Pleiades taken using the DSLR attached to the scope with no magnification other than the scope itself.  It’s a nicer, brighter image!

The Pleiades, or “Seven Sisters (Messier 45), is an open star cluster containing middle-aged hot B-Type stars located in the Taurus constellation, and is among the nearest star clusters to Earth.

Currently visible with the naked eye in the western sky after sunset, if you’ve got some binoculars or a camera with a zoom lens give it a look.
